Ji Chang Wook is one of South Korea’s famous actors who has been pursuing the world of acting since 2008. The quality of his acting is unquestionable, considering that most of the dramas he starred in have always been popular and successfully received high ratings.
In 2024, Ji Chang Wook is being flooded with offers of acting projects both dramas and films, one of which is Queen Woo which aired on Thursday, (8/29). Interestingly, this royal-themed series became Ji Chang Wook’s first comeback after starring in a sageuk drama 11 years ago.

1. Warrior Baek Dong Soo (2011)
Warrior Baek Dong Soo became the first royal-themed drama starring Ji Chang Wook as the lead in 2011.
Adapted from the true history of legendary Korean warriors, the drama follows the journey of a sword master who created martial arts in the Joseon era named Baek Dong Soo (Ji Chang Wook). With his skills, he becomes the personal bodyguard of Crown Prince Sado, who eventually becomes King Jeongjo.

2. Empress Ki (2013)
Starring Ji Chang Wook and famous actress Ha Ji Won, Empress Ki became the most popular sageuk drama that managed to get more than 20% rating in each episode. The drama presents a complex story ranging from love triangles, politics, to war.
It starts with a beautiful Goryeo noble named Ki Seung Nyang (Ha Ji Won) who is forced to leave her first love to marry her true love, Ta Hwan (Ji Chang Wook), the emperor of the Yuan Dynasty. On the other hand, Emperor Ta Hwan has sincere feelings for Empress Ki and even he always protects the empress.

3. Queen Woo (2024)
First released on Thursday, (8/29), Queen Woo became Ji Chang Wook’s sageuk drama comeback project after 11 years. Queen Woo tells the story of the struggle of Queen Woo Hee (Jeon Jong Seo) who tried to rule the kingdom of Goguryeo after the sudden death of her husband or king, by marrying one of her late husband’s younger brothers.
In the drama, Ji Chang Wook plays King Go Nam Moo of Goguryeo who marries a member of the royal family, Woo Hee. However, their relationship begins to falter after the king puts down a rebellion led by the queen’s relatives.
After the war and returning to the palace, she faced an unexpected death that left Goguryeo experiencing a turbulent power struggle from the five kingdoms. You can watch Queen Woo itself on Viu.
